Coach Profiles

Steve Burke
Achivements:Steve’s first involvement in the club started 16 years ago in 1995 after returning from a family holiday in Liverpool where his daughter had been spotted in a local pool and was asked where she swam and that she might like to join a swimming club. At the time Steve’s eldest daughter; Lauren, was 9 years old and came for a trial at Coventry and went straight into the squads and won her first club championships that year in the 50m breaststroke. This was the beginning of the journey for Steve and his family; wife Annette and two daughters Lauren & Emma that has culminated in Steve being the current Club President of City of Coventry Swimming Club for the next two years. So far his journey since 1995 has taken him, like many parents involved in their off springs swimming, from timekeeping on sprint night to then running it to doing the exams for timekeeping and judging and then having a go at referring along the way, from being an active volunteer on the fundraising and social side and other areas of the club to Steve and Annette leading the Devon Tour in 1998 and he has always been seen as a prominent figure on many a walkathon over the years, supersoaker and all! On top of all of this Steve has also been heavily involved over the years in the Junior Teams and also the ICG Teams. Steve's coaching first started on a Saturday morning at Livingstone Road Baths, now known as Foleshill Leisure Centre, where he took his daughter to train and Steve used to step in and cover the sessions when the coach was away. Steve enjoyed this challenge so went on to do his Teaching and Coaching qualifications helping out on Club Night with the learn to swim before joining the Coaching Team. Steve’s first coaching challenge was taking the Blue Achievers, before then moving onto the Junior Performance squad and then moving to the High Achievers squad that he now coaches.
Other:Steve is ASA Level 2 qualified and also holds a current CRB certificate, Safeguarding & protecting Children certificate and is also first aid & lifeguard qualified.
