We are pleased to welcome two new Trustees to the Club. Nick 
Sellwood and Leigh Whitbread were duly elected at the AGM and 
take up their positions with immediate effect.

recruited Sarah Ruckwood as Finance and Administration Manager. 
Sarah brings with her a wealth of experience and will be working 
across all areas of the Club. 

Due to the Coventry and District Championships this weekend

For Sunday 2nd
There will be no session for SP, SS, JP or JS
Reception Achievers 1 and 2 will train 5-6pm in the 23.5m end
Blue and Red Achievers will train 6-7pm in the 23.5m end
Masters will swim as normal 5-7pm but instead will be in the 
25m end.
Junior Club will swim as normal and again will be in the 25m

We write to notify you that we will be carrying out road 
repairs on Allard Way during the evenings and nights of Monday 
5th, Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th September.

 

Allard Way will be closed at 6.30pm. However vehicles will 
have access to the Alan Higgs sports centre for all three 
evenings.

 

Access will be permitted from the Whitley roundabout end of 
Allard Way only. Sport centre customers wishing to enter 
Allard Way from the Binley Road end will be diverted to 
Whitley roundabout for access to the sports centre. This will 
be clearly signed.

September 1st 2022 Assistant Coach Paul Wilson will be promoted 
to Performance Swim Coach. This follows the announcement that 
Adam Ruckwood is to leave the Club in the autumn for new 
challenges.

Paul has been a member of the Club since 2000 and took up 
coaching in 2012. He is a valued member of staff and we very 
much look forward to working with him in his new role.

You may be aware it is time trials this weekend. This is a 
great opportunity for your child to post some times under race 
conditions and provide them with valuable experience for 
future competition. There is nothing to pay to enter, you

Saturday AM will see JP, and both HA groups race during there

The Swim England National Summer Meet is scheduled to take 
place from 5-9 August 2022, with the British Summer 
Championships booked in for 23-28 July 2022.

Qualification will be between Friday 11 March to Sunday 8 May,

We are looking forward to the first sprint night of the 2021-
2022 season and wanted to update you regarding some changes.

Previously, the junior groups came in at 6pm and all took part 
in 1x25m on each stroke. Going forward to make this more 
suitable for the groups involved we have made the following 
changes.

Reception Achievers 1+2, Blue + Red Achievers will do their 
sprint night during their 7.15-8.30pm Friday session. They 
will continue to do a 25m on each stroke. There will be a 
small warm up and swim down before and after the racing so 
please ensure your child is on poolside for 7pm.

The High Achievers groups will do 1x50m on each stroke as well 
as a 25m freestyle. They will do this during their 6-7.15pm 
session and again will have a warm up and swim down either 
side of the racing.

The Monday night land training for the Blue and Red Achiever 
groups as well as Senior Performance has moved from the sports 
hall to function room 1 (the first room at the top of the green 
stairs just past reception). Times for the session will remain 
as they are on the training timetable.

With COVID restrictions having eased entry and exit to the pool 
will now be the following:

Entry will be via the grey doors under the canopy on the right 
side of the building. Swimmers can come straight in and use the 
changing rooms if required.

Exit will be via the front doors of the building (past the 
reception), swimmers are again able to use the changing rooms 
should they wish to do so. The fire exits will no longer be used

5th not Monday 6th as previously stated

Secretary. The role entails looking after the day to day 
registration of members and is a key link between Swim 
England and the Club. Good communication, organisation, 
administration and IT skills are required. The holder must

We are sure you have all seen the great news that we can 
return to swimming as of Wednesday 2nd December. 
 
We have had confirmation from Alan Higgs that we can return 
4.30am Weds 2nd December and await confirmation from 
Caludon and University of Warwick for the Wednesday evening 
sessions onwards. We will update as and when we hear.
 
We have had confirmation that under 18’s can return as 
normal to  training sessions and learn to swim regardless 
of the tier Coventry is placed into. We will return to the 
timetable we were using before lock down 2. There will be 
no changes to training times in December except when we 
start the Christmas timetable which will be released soon 
so you can see those changes planned. 
 
For the over 18’s the circumstances for return will depend 
on which tier Coventry is placed into on Thursday and 
further guidance from Swim England. Once we are 100% sure 
of the situation we will update all our over 18 members. 
 
Please be rest assured we will return to the pool with the 
COVID safe environment we had prior to Lockdown 2 and all 
cleaning and social distancing protocols will be 
implemented as before.

We are sure a lot of you will have seen the announcement on Monday by Swim England regarding their guidelines and roadmap for getting swimming clubs and swim schools back into the water.  We are really pleased to see the publication of the guidelines and hope you are as excited as we are to get back to the pool! We are going through all the published guidelines, talking to all the pools we use about their specific takes on health and safety and pulling together a plan to get the swimmers back into the water as safely and quickly as possible.  As soon as we have this and have everything in place, we will get it to you.  

In the next 24 hours we will be sending out a Member Survey to help us with more detailed planning with the aim to start a phased return for some swimmers through July and then aim for all squads to have access to sessions by the 1st August. These are provisional timelines we are working to at this moment in time and is dependent on the Government announcing that Swimming Pools can re-open and then the Operators of the pools we use being ready for us to return. 

The survey closing date is Friday 26th June, although it is not compulsory to complete, the more information we receive from the Membership the more accurate we can be with the planning. We hope to then give you a further update by 8th July if not before.

We are currently having intermittent issues with the Coventry 
Swimming email accounts. If you have tried to contact us and 
had no reply, please be patient and rest assured that we will 
contact you as soon as we are able.

You may have seen in the news recently a potential date of when swimming pools may be opening (4th July) and how swimmers may be able to swim in them when they are opened. The Club Trustees are regularly meeting with the Senior Staff and discussing how we could potentially re-open once the various pools re-open but want to wait until we have the full Swim England guidance & details from the pools we use before we can advise how the Club will operate on re-opening. 

The Trustees wanted to contact you today to let you know that we are in conversations with the various pool operators that we use and await the Swim England guidelines to be released on June 15th. There is then a Trustees meeting planned for June 16th and then a further announcement will be released from the Trustees/Senior Staff after this.

After much thought it has been decided to cancel the Graham Sykes Meet (11-12th July 2020). We are disappointed to make this decision but under the current situation and the latest announcements from the Government it is the right one to be making. Any entry fees received will be refunded in full. You will be contacted soon for payments to be arranged. We thank you for your support and understanding in this matter and we hope to see you all as soon as we can at one of our future meets - we are desperate for you all to compete in our new pool - we will just need to wait a little longer! 

We have had word that the Mercian League which usually runs from April through to the final in July, has been cancelled for 2020.

We have also had word from Nuneaton & Bedworth SC that their June Open Meet has been cancelled, so any swimmer who entered that meet should contact Nuneaton about their entry refund.

"The decision has been taken to cancel all three rounds of 
the Junior League this year.  Even if venues are open and 
Clubs are back by June we feel that swimmers will not have 
had the training or preparation required.  This is of 
course very regretful but we feel it is the right decision.

With regard to the September galas, we will discuss this 
and let you all know what is happening".

In the light of the ever changing situation around the Covid-19 virus, the club officers and senior staff have a meeting tonight to discuss the way forward.  With this in mind swimming training for all groups will be cancelled tonight (Wednesday 18th PM) and tomorrow morning (Thursday 19th AM).

Our Excellent Swim Camps our back once more! For a fun way 
for your child to develop their swimming, look no further 
than our Easter Swim Camp.

For those swimming 6.00-7.30pm. Swimmers/parents will be able to enter the building via the front door as long as before 6pm. After 6pm entry will be onto the poolside via Cope street emergency exit door onto poolside. At 6pm when the centre staff have done the sweep of the building the doors to the changing rooms (the trophy cabinet side) are to be locked and also the poolside door by the first aid room (by the trophy cabinet). This is then to prevent any swimmers/parents moving off poolside/changing rooms. At the end of the session the lane ropes are to be moved to the splash pool end of the pool so the water polo guys can set up for their session. 

If we can ask the Masters and any over 18’s from SP to help with this it would be appreciated. All parents and swimmers will then need to leave via the poolside to Cope street. Can you as coaches ensure you see all swimmers off deck before you leave poolside yourselves. We need to ensure from a safeguarding point of view that all are accounted for and have left. We are going to ask that parents of Under 16’s come and collect from the door, any swimmers 16-18 yrs can leave of their own accord as long as the parent’s have emailed into Adam to let them know they are happy for them to leave on their own (this then helps with anyone who may be driving themselves/getting the bus etc). 

If there is an under 16 that wishes to leave by their own then again we will need to have had an email from the parent to say they are OK with this. Coaches you will then leave the poolside by the exit onto Cope street and leave Water Polo to close the pool at the end of their session. Water Polo will have a set of keys so can lock the doors to the changing rooms after the building sweep at 6pm.

All reception & coloured achievers swimming 4.00-5.15pm will enter and exit the building as normal by the front door and the normal arrangements for expectation of coaches will be as normal i.e. swimmers are the club’s responsibility whilst they are on poolside and then once in the changing rooms responsibility switches to parents/responsible adult. 

All swimmers/parents need to be out of the building by 6pm at the latest. A sweep of the building will be done at 6pm (by the centre staff) and anyone left will exit the pool from the emergency exit on poolside. Parents will need to come to this exit before swimmers are released from pool deck. Coaches you have the choice to leave either by the front door or the pool exit. If, there are any swimmers still there at 6pm then the coaches at 6pm sessions to ensure the swimmers do not leave the poolside until an adult has come to collect them from the pool exit door.

There is an advanced sale of tickets for the National 
Final. The deadline for this is Midnight Wednesday 5th 
February. Payments will be collected using GoCardless on 
Monday 10th February. Tickets will then be available to 
pick up on the day of the gala from 11.30am on the day. No 
tickets will be posted.

Advanced tickets are £9 per adult or £4.50 concession (over 
65/under 16). Please note these prices are set by the 
league and not the club. Tickets will be available to 
purchase on the day via debit/credit card only at £10/£5 
each. Although there is guarantee as to how many tickets 
are available on the day. Any tickets applied for are non-
refundable by the club.

Due to the County Championships now being on this Sunday we are postponing the diving awards that were planned on the 2nd Feb to Sunday 16th Feb instead.

We also have to change the March date so a new date for April/May time will be posted later in the year.

We have some spaces still available for the tour. Year groups we are taking 
2008, 2009 and 2010 (9-12year olds). We are very short on the youngest girls

Hi All, Tonight from one of the swimmers from the later 
sessions found a Fitbit- they have handed it to one of the 
lifeguards- the watch went off about 10pm as a alarm for 
bedtime.

Due to the problems with access to the website, the entry 
deadlines for Coventry & District and Birmingham Open Meet

have to press the Sports Centre buzzer on the main gate and 
this will come through to the Sports Centre Reception. I 
shall be the one manning reception but unfortunately I 
cannot stand at the gate all evening letting people in so 
this shall have to be operated manually from reception.

A fantastic weekend of racing from our Junior league swimmers saw the Leicester diddy league compete in their league final at Corby finishing in 4th place against some strong opposition. Congratulations for all the swimmers and coaches who took part!

The Nuneaton Junior League team travelled over to Leamington and finished 1st in a tightly contested gala which sees them qualify for the regional final on September 14th. 

Great swimming from everyone, well done! 

The winning number in line with national lottery bonus ball drawn on 8/6/19 was ........No.43!!

The lucky winner was Rob Hayselden....Well done!!

Proceeds towards fundraising for COCSC were £56 this month (58/59 numbers chosen).

Luqman competed in the National Dwarf Games in swimming last weekend and came back with 4 golds in all of his races (25m on each stroke) for the 10 year olds. He was presented with these by Ellie Simmonds.

There were some excellent results with plenty of best times and great strides forward by the Coventry swimmers. Last weekend saw 12 of the City of Coventry Masters travel to Swansea for the Swim Wales Open Masters. A fantastic effort from the team ensured they brought home a total of 30 medals (including 11 Gold, 16 Silver and 3 Bronze) from events ranging from 50 Butterfly to 1500 Freestyle. Well done to all!

COCSC swimmer Lauren Cox went to Nice in France this weekend with Swim England to take part in the French Golden Tour. She won silver in both the 50m and the 100m backstroke both in lifetime best times. The 50m she swam in 28.39 which is a new West Midlands and Warwickshire senior record. The 100m She swam in 1.01.60 which is also a Warwickshire senior record. Great job Lauren! #fastswimming #cocsc #cityofculture #dreambig

City of Coventry Swimming Club had 97 swimmers aged between 10 and 23 (age end of year) qualify for this year’s county championships. The Championships were held at their home pool on Fairfax Street for the final time, before the move to the new pool at the Alan Higgs later this year, and the Coventry Swimmers ensured the pool got the sending off it deserved. Finishing top of the medal table with a whopping 117 medals: 41 Gold, 42 Silver and 34 Bronze.
 
The Coventry swimmers demonstrated excellent professionalism, exhibited each day with the team land warm ups done prior to the pool warm up which was led by senior swimmers on each occasion. This lent to fantastic performances in the pool both individually and collectively. Both the male and the female 10-12 relay teams won Gold in the free and the medley relays. This was boosted further by wins in the open age relays in the men’s and women’s 800m freestyle team demonstrating the depth right throughout the club. Individual praise must go to: Elizabeth Caine - picking up 4 gold medals, Kenza Ajimi - who won a clean sweep of the breaststroke events (50m, 100m and 200m), and both Rebecca Winn and James McClure who picked up a further 3 gold medals each. Not to mention the vast number of finalists, best times and improvements showcased by the whole club. It was great to see a ‘Red C’ touching the wall first on so many races. Well done to all swimmers, coaches and volunteers for helping the swimmers to be the very best they can be!

Winter Nationals
There were 2 Senior Elite swimmers who travelled to Sheffield this weekend. Lauren Cox finished off a fantastic year with best times in both the 50m and 100m backstroke breaking the West Midlands record and her own club records in the process! Ryan Griffiths also swam huge best times in the 100m and 200m breaststroke to finish a season of rapid improvements on a high.

Hillingdon Open Meet
The swimmers from both Senior and Junior Elite had a storming meet down in Hillingdon. Over 90% of the swims resulted in best times bringing finals and medals! Numerous younger swimmers obtained qualification times for regionals for the first time. The coaches were impressed with the professional approach and discipline showcased by the swimmers in what was a great weekend for the club.

Northampton Winter Festival
Last but by no means least to conclude a busy weekend for the club, swimmers from Senior Performance, Junior Performance and both High Achievers groups attended the Northampton Winter Festival over in Rugby. Again there were best times from all groups, with yet more swimmers qualifying for regional competition.

This all caps off a great 2018 for the club. From national finals for the junior swimmers in the leagues all the way through to European medal success for Lauren, 2018 has truly been a great year. Here’s to more of the same next year to go with the exciting introduction of the new pool later in the year!

Hi All, The Development gala –  This Sunday 11th November 
at Warwick University- I have emailed out for plea for 
helpers for*Recorders/Timers / Team Managers/ Marshalling-  
/ Door help /Runners / Data-Using the computer and 
officials/Trainee J1s-  Warm-up 2:30 pm and Start time 
3:00pm. 
*We need 6 people to record, 6 to time keep, 4 team 
mangers, 2 Marshalls and 3 people for the door,2 Runners, 
2 Data.  And of course JI Trained officials* Please If you 
haven’t helped before, not to worry, we will pair you up 
with an experienced volunteer who will show you the ropes.

Last weekend saw the Midland short course championships in Nottingham. #COCSC sent a strong team of 13 swimmers competing in various events. There were a total of 9 medal winning performances and multiple finals. Josh Fairchild picked up 4 medals including 3 Gold medals in the 400 free, 200 IM and 100 backstroke Ryan Griffiths had a clean sweep in the junior age group breaststroke events winning 3 Golds and breaking a Warwickshire record in the process. Also, Lauren Cox added two more Gold medals in the backstroke events, claiming a further two Warwickshire records in the process. Well done to all who raced, loads of #fastswimming!

Our Head Coach Adam will be away from eamils until Thursday this week as he is currently on the Swim England Coach 2024 programme. Only 15 coaches across the country are on the programme which consists of a 14 month period where coaches will be working to develop there knowledge and skills to continue to develop swimmers to a high level in the sport.

A successful weekend of racing for the City of Coventry Masters section last weekend at the National Short Course Championships in Sheffield. 23 swimmers competed over the weekend winning a total of 7 medals including 1 Gold (Joy Ravenhall 50bk), 3 silver medals (Womens 400 medley team, Womens 800 free team and Faith Goodliffe in the 200 back) and 3 bronze medals (Faith 100 back, Mel McWhirter 100 medley and Anthony Howland 100 butterly) across their respective age groups. There were also numerous best times for the Coventry swimmers. Well done to all who raced!

Junior-Inter League Southern Final
City of Coventry took a team of 34 swimmers aged ranging 9-12 to Norwich on Sunday for the Junior League National Semi-Final. There was excellent team spirit throughout and some fantastic racing against extremely stiff opposition. The team finished 2nd on the night meaning they have qualified for the National Grand Final on Sunday 25th November. The future certainly looks bright for these young Coventry Swimmers!

Evan McWhirter, Lauren Cox and Ryan Griffiths represented Warwickshire at Sheffield in this year’s Inter-county competition on Sunday. Team Warwickshire finished 11th in Division 2 at the gala with some great racing from the Coventry Swimmers.

Cov & Districts

To finish an incredibly busy weekend of swimming for COCSC, many of the clubs swimmers took part in the first weekend of the Cov and Districts at Pingles Leisure Centre. Coaches were impressed with the skill transfer from training to racing this early in the season with swimmers working hard on their process goals to ensure they will obtain the best possible results at the end of cycle meets. There were also numerous swims which obtained county qualifying standard and potential regional qualifying times when these are published later in the year.

Due to the Junior League Semi final this Sunday we are having to move the Diving awards planned for this Sunday to a later date, the exact date to be confirmed.

If you received a trophy form the Coventry & District 
Primaries last year, please make sure you bring it back 
this weekend. If you wont be there at the weekend please 
pass the trophy to either Paul or Adam.

The 4th round of the junior league takes place this weekend 
on Saturday 8th September at Pingles Leisure Centre, 
Nuneaton CV11 4LX.

Tomorrows session for Junior Club will be brought forward slightly and run 6.45-8pm at Coventry Sports Centre.  This is for the Tuesday 4th September session only.

which was unscheduled. Due to this there has had to be a

British Nationals final and will not be able to get back in 
time from Sheffield and unfortunately nobody else is

It was yet another great weekend for the City of Coventry 
Team. After impressing in the early round, Coventry 
clinched victory in the final with 24 first place finishes 
and a further 12 second places. The team finished with an 
incredible 249 points out of a possible 300 to retain the 
Mercian league trophy for the third year in a row!

Thanks to all the swimmers, officials, coaches and parents 
for your hard work during the league this year.

Excellent swim from Rebecca Burden to win Gold at the West Midland Open Water Championships over the weekend.  The meet took place at Bala Lake and combined swimmers from the East Midlands as well.  Becky put in a tough performance to win her 16 years age group (5k) and also beat everyone from the East Midlands as well.
The swim qualifies Becky for the National Open Water Championships at Rother Valley at the end of July.  

Nice job Becky and good luck in a few weeks time at Nationals!

The Devon Tour this year are doing a cash for clothes collection to help raise funds for the trip. If you have any old clothes that you are thinking of getting rid of please bring them down to Coventry Sports Centre on Club night and pass to Calie Smith.

Swim fast and race hard!

There was great success for the club last week as Lauren 
Cox (Senior Elite) was selected to represent Team GB at the 
European Junior Championships. Lauren swam in two events, 
the 50m and the 100m backstroke finishing 10th on the 100m 
and finishing with a silver medal on the 50m! Lauren swam a 
time of 28.51 which put her only 0.04 seconds off the 
British Age Group record. 

A huge congratulations to Lauren and to her coach Adam 
Ruckwood!

Great swimming from the Coventry Swimmers this weekend. A 
grand total of 35 Gold, 37 Silver and 47 Bronze medals were 
won by the swimmers with lots of lifetime bests and fast 
swimming!

Particular thanks to the swimmer, coaches, officials and 
parents for your support during what was en extremely hot 
weekend at the pool but ultimately a successful one!

With the Graham Sykes Open Meet being held this weekend, there will be some changes to training:

On Saturday training will be cancelled for both High Achiever groups and on Sunday training will be cancelled for all groups except Masters and Water Polo.

It was a fantastic weekend of fixtures for City of 
Coventry with both the Nuneaton and Leicester junior 
league teams winning their respective galas.

The Nuneaton team had an extremely tough 3rd round, with 
4 of the league’s top teams all drawn against one 
another. The Coventry swimmers were excellent picking up 
18 wins and a further 13 second place finishes out of a 
total 51 races ending the gala with an impressive 235 
points. There were exceptional performances from the 11 
year old boys team, winning both of their relays. Also a 
special mention to Kenza Ajimi who won every race she was 
in! It was an extremely hard fought gala with the top 4 
close throughout. The team now progress to the regional 
final on September 8th for a second consecutive year, 
good luck to all!

The Leicester team also capped off their final fixture of 
the season with a great win. A grand total of 19 first 
place finishes and 12 second places meant a storming 
victory for the swimmers wearing the big red C! The 
coaches were proud of the performances in what has been a 
first experience of league competition for many of the 
team and all thoroughly deserved the success they 
achieved. Noticeable performances came from Kira Lukacs, 
Jay Waite, Isabella Goult, Daniel Andrews and Edie 
Fenson. Well done to all!

Today we have a level 2 coaching course starting tonight, below is a list of sessions the course will be using for practicals:

Sunday 17th June – just observing the 3pm sessions from 3.30-4.15pm, 4.15pm doing an efficiency test with 5 of JP swimmers

Fri 22 June – using the 6pm & 7pm sessions
Sunday 24th June – using the JP & SS swimmers to complete stroke & skill analysis – they won’t be coaching

Fri 29th June – using the 6pm & 7pm sessions
Sun 1st July – 3pm session – coaching both the 3pm & 4.15pm sessions

Fri 13th July – using the 6pm & 7pm sessions
Sun 15th July – using the 4.15pm sessions only

The normal coaches will be about on deck plus I will also be around to ensure the swimmers receive the training they would normally be accustomed to.

These courses bring in revenue to the club whilst also upskilling some of the clubs coaches too. Any queries please let me know.

Good luck Team Hearsall!  This Saturday 4 of our Coventry boys will be swimming at the ESSA primary school’s national team Championships at Ponds forge.  The boys qualified by being one of the fastest three freestyle relay schools teams in the West Midlands.  They will be racing against 23 other school teams from across the 8 English regions.  Good luck to Ben Nicholson, Joel Cunningham, Max Smith and Teddy Tromans, race hard! 

It was a busy weekend of racing for Coventry Swimming 
club, with the second round of the Mercian League on 
Saturday and also several of the masters swimmers 
competing in the British Masters championships in 
Plymouth over the weekend.

Mercian League
After an impressive first round win back in April, the 
team carried on where they left off with another 
convincing win against some strong opposition. Out of a 
possible 51 races, the team achieved a top 2 finish in 38 
of them including 25 first place finishes!
There are special mentions for the Boys and Girls 
10/under age groups who won all of their relays leaving 
the future looking very bright indeed!
Well done to all who raced, let’s get ready for the 3rd 
round on July 14th.

British Masters Championships
The masters section took a strong team of 10 swimmers 
down to Plymouth for the British Masters championships at 
the weekend. It was a high quality meet with several 
British, European and even World records broken. Coach 
Jelly was very pleased with the performances and special 
mentions go to Rebecca Ewers (3rd 200, 400 and 800 
freestyle), Fiona Cunningham (3rd 100 breastroke, 3rd 200 
IM), Claire Coventry (3rd 400 freestyle), John Smith (2nd 
50 fly, 3rd 100 fly), Sophie Matthews and Susan Geill 
(both 3rd 200 freestlye). Well done to all!

Good luck to all those racing in the Mercian League 
tomorrow night! Please arrive promptly at 5.40pm for a 6 
oclock warm up. Venue is Tamworth, B79 7ND. Good luck and

I will be closing the Aqua park survey tomorrow morning so that we can collate the results and then decide on whether the trip is viable to go ahead. We are sorry to announce that Joe Evans will be leaving the club.

Joe has been with us for over 3 years now, firstly as a swimmer and more recently as a coach.  As a swimmer he enjoyed huge success regularly winning medals at Regional level and qualifying for English and British Nationals.  Joe has done a great job with Junior Performance coaching the swimmers with passion and professionalism and will be sorely missed.

Joe will be finishing on Friday 22nd June to take up a full-time coaching role with Wycombe Swimming Club.  This is a great opportunity for Joe and we would like to wish him all the very best from everyone at City of Coventry Swimming Club.

The Club are looking to organise a club trip for members 13 yr and over. This is because it has been felt that something would be good for the older ones to do. The younger ones have the opportunity to go on the Devon Tour so the suggestion of an older trip has been put forward. 

We would like to gather the thoughts of the members to see if this would be a popular choice, please could you find a couple of minutes to complete this online survey. There are only 5 questions so it shouldnt take you very long.

Eve has been coaching Junior Club on Monday nights at Caludon for over a year now and has done a great job.  Eve has a new job which means she sadly doesnt have the time to commit to the Monday nights anymore.

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Frank Gale 
aged 95. Long time member of the Club, Frank ran the Three 
Spires Swimming Club before it merged to form City of 
Coventry Swimming Club. As an active member of our Club, he 
held many roles including Club President in 1982.
The funeral will be held at 2:15pm on Friday 11th May at 
Canley Crematorium. We pass our condolences to the family.

The date has been set for the Annual Awards Night - 15th September. Further details to follow......

Due to the Regional Championships being on this Sunday and next in the pool we are having to cancel the Pathways 2 session 4.30-6.00pm.

There will also be no Pathways 1 session either 3.00-4.30pm.

Due to the West Midland Regional Championships taking place at Coventry Sports Centre, training will be cancelled on Saturday 28th April, Sunday 29th April, Saturday 5th May and Sunday 6th May.

High Achievers session will run 6.00-7.50am on Saturday 28th and Saturday 5th.

Training for every group will also be cancelled on Monday 7th May due to the Bank Holiday.

Great swim from Niall Connell to win Gold in the Junior Mens 200m IM at the England Schools Swimming Championships this weekend in Crawley.  Niall knocked a huge 4 seconds off his best to take the win.

Aimee Hood, Louis Fenson and Eva Vicary also swam at the meet as part of the West Midlands team.

It is with sadness we report that two of our founder 
members, Dennis Franklin and Eleanor Payne, have passed 
away.
Eleanor stayed very active in the Club for a number of 
years being Secretary at one point. She also served on the 
Midland District Executive for many years and was President 
of the District.
 
Her funeral is on March 22nd at St George’s Coundon at 12 
noon.

Last weekend saw the British Swimming Championships in a snowy Edinburgh.  The Championships were a final preparation meet for the swimmers leaving for next months Commonwealth Games as well as incorporating the Trials for the Great Britain Junior Team to compete at July’s European Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland.

City of Coventry had six swimmers racing at the Championships - Lauren Cox, Lauren McConnachie, Eva Vicary, Ana Vicary, Dan Moore and Rebecca Winn.  

Lauren Cox had a great met swimming two huge lifetime best times in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke to secure selection to the GB team for the European Juniors in the summer.  Her performance in the 50m Backstroke won her the Bronze medal, while her times in both swims were new Warwickshire County Senior Records.  

Well done to all the swimmers and especially Lauren on her selection to the Great Britain team!

There is an England Talent Camp being held this Saturday (17th) and our swimmers have to be out of the pool earlier than normal.  We are therefore having to re-arrange the session times to accommodate the Swim England camp:

High Achiever groups will swim 7.30-9am.  Land-work will be cancelled.
Senior and Junior Elite will swim 5.30-7.30am with land-work afterwards.

As we had to cancel sprint night last Friday due to the weather we have now moved it to the 16th March. This is because originally we were going to do one on the 2nd March and then another on the 23rd March and miss April due to the Easter Holidays being early. Therefore, it makes sense for us now to do one in the middle of the original time frame and just run one sprint night for march/April.

We are running 2 x 4 day skills camps at the University of Warwick Tues 3rd-Fri 6th April & Mon 9th-Thurs 12th April, one stroke per day. You can also attend individual days also.

Due to a logistical issue with the keys to open up we are having to change the training times for the squads in the morning:

Junior & Senior Elite - swim 7.00-8.30am with land work 8.30-9.15am. Come in through the side doors onto poolside (we are reliant on the pool staff opening up so this may be 6.55-7.00am time so a quick change and into the pool will be necessary, no pre pool).

High Achievers Ben & Jess - land work 7.30-8.15am and swim 8.30-10.00am. Come in through the main doors at the front of the building.

Due to the weather please dont feel that you have to come training if the weather/roads where you live are not great. 

Further update to the weather situation..... Due to the snow falling in the last hour we have decided to cancel Club Night and Pathways tonight. 

We have also decided to run just one session tonight 6.00-7.00pm for all the squads that normally swim 6.00-8.15pm. As we have cancelled club night we will have the two shallow ends of the pool  plus the 8 lanes to run a session. Please dont feel that you have to come training if you feel the roads around your area are too bad.

The decision has been taken to run the sessions as normal tonight at Coventry Sports Centre, including club night.

The snow hasnt come down as bad as forecast and at the moment the roads are fairly clear.

We will keep an eye on the weather and if it does take a turn for the worse then we will close early but as it stands we will run all sessons/lessons.

Well done to Lauren Cox who on Saturday broke the Senior County record for 50m backstroke short course and the Club record at the same time that had stood for seven years - 28.35 is the new time to beat!

Joshua swam 7 events this weekend at the National Para swimming Disability Champs hosted by the English Federation of Disability sport. Joshua achieved personal best times in 5 of his swims and broke the 30 second barrier for the first time in his 50 Freestyle having a strong swim to win the heat with the time of 29.56.
As usual the main focus was on his 200 Freestyle which was his last event of the championships and once again he managed to pull out a great Pb of 2:16.17 and achieving 604 British disability points putting him in the top 20 for his Classification nationally.

The Reception Achiever 1 and Red Achiever sessions will run as normal tonight at Foxford. All back to normal.

We have had confirmation that Lyng Hall is open tonight so the sessions will be back to normal from Wednesday 13th.

Congratulations to Lucy Hargreaves who is this years winner of our annual Christmas card competition, Lucys fantastic drawing will be used as the Clubs official Christmas card for 2017 and will also feature on the home page of the website - Well done Lucy.

This years competition was very difficult to judge as we had some amazing designs but a special mention must go to the following swimmers who all made  the top ten (in no particular order ) :- Lailah Power, Lottie Joyce, Brain McSharry, Kenza Ajimi, Isaac kitchen, Charlie Smith,Szonja Lukacs, Delvina Tahir and Paisley Roper.

Last hopeful shout out for officials for this weekend, especially to help out on the Sunday sessions. At the Club Championships this year we will again be running the Festive themed Cannon Relay. 8 teams made up of swimmers from all groups will compete in a fast and furious 50m freestyle relay. Mel Fenson Photography will be at the meet on Sunday December 10th, doing her best to photograph your childs best side!

Within a few days of the meet the images will be available to view via a Dropbox link that we will email out, and which will also be available via: https://www.facebook.com/MelFensonPhotography/. Youll also be able to register your email with Mel on the day if youd like the link emailed directly to you. 

The high resolution digital images will be priced at £4.50 for one image, or £12.00 for three images. A percentage of sales will be donated to the club.

The Club have been working closely with the Council over the past 12 months on the plans for the new 50m pool which has been announced this week as going forwards to planning permission stage for the Alan Higgs site. Liz Sykes (Chairman) and myself met with the Council for an update last week and they have offered to come along and give a presentation to members before the AGM next Thursday (23rd November)

The Presentation will be held at 7pm for approx 20 mins with 10mins opportunity for questions before we start the AGM as near to 7.30pm as possible. Both will be held in the Board Room on the second floor - dry side Coventry Sports Centre.

The AGM is open to all members of the Club and we look 
forward to seeing you there

We have been relying heavily on officials visiting our meets to help run them efficiently and it is becoming more and more difficult to staff them correctly. With this in mind I wanted to inform you that our club champs will be held on Sunday 10th December (time to be confirmed) which we will need to try to cover with our officials as best we can. As it will be a level 4 meet we can use anyone who is qualified from a club timekeeper upwards. If you could let me know if you can help on that day asap that would be great.

The Clubs AGM is scheduled for 23rd November, all members and parents/carers of members are welcome. Below is an outline of what will be discussed:

The purpose of the Annual General Meeting is to transact the following business:

• To receive the Chairman’s report of activities of the Club during the previous year;
• To receive and consider the accounts of the club for the previous year and the report on the accounts of the independent examiner and the Treasurers report as to the financial position of the Club;
• To remove and elect the Independent Examiner (who must not be a member of the committee or a member of the family of a member of the committee) or confirm that he/she remain in office; 
• To elect the Executive Officers and other members of the Committee;
• To decide on any resolution which may be duly submitted in accordance with Rule 9.3 

Rule 9.3 Nominations for election of members to any office or for membership of the committee shall be made in writing by the proposer and seconder to the Secretary not later than 21 days before the date of the AGM. The nominee shall be required to indicate in writing on the nomination form their willingness to stand for election. Notice of any resolution proposed to be moved at the Annual General Meeting shall be given in writing to the secretary not later than 21 days before the AGM.

There have been a few enquires to the addition of an entry fee now per swimmer for the Development Gala

The reason for the fee being added this season:

1)	Pool cost has gone up this year so it is helping to reduce the cost to the club as the number of spectators has reduced and therefore the revenue from the door take
2)	It starts the learning process for parents on using the paypal system for entering meets so when comes to entering external competitions the process should be easier and less issues occurring through non payment
3)	The gala/pool booking is 3.25 hours long and therefore is longer than normal training time and therefore the club incur extra costs to run it i.e. pool time and coach time 
4)	Can confirm it is only £1 per swimmer (not per event) so should only be being asked to pay £1. If anyone is being asked to pay more than £1 then we need to know so we can look into it.

Just a reminder that the warm-up and start times have been brought forward on Saturday - it is now 12.45pm warm-up and 1.30pm start.

On Sunday morning it is a 9am start, so warm-up will be from 8am.

Swimmers have been asked to try and put additional bags in the lockers provided in the changing rooms as it is going to be very busy on poolside.  Finals have been scrapped to give additional time to fit everybody in due to the massive entry the organisers have received, so space on poolside is going to be very limited.

The galas will be run between 2.30-5.45 PM at Warwick University and will be in replacement of the normal training sessions.  Please put these dates in your diary as it is mandatory for swimmers in the reception, coloured and high achievers to attend.

Sam Richards (former coach of Green Achievers) is now working closely with the Lily Mae Foundation, which is a charity that supports parents and families after a stillbirth or neo natal death.  Sam has organised a golf day to raise funds for the foundation and asked I share this with the club members.

The golf day is on Saturday 4th November at The Belfry - Derby Course.  The cost is £35 and there are 48 places on a first-come-first-served basis.  If you are interested please contact Sam on sam.richards@lilymaefoundation.org for more information.  If you wish to book a place you can do so with Sam, or via the Club Night desk with a deposit of £10 (or the full £35) in an envelope with your name and Sam Richards Golf Day on it.  If you just pay the deposit the remainder is obviously payable on the day.

Saturday night saw the final of the 2017 Mercian League at Nuneaton.  City of Coventry have won the Mercian League three of the past four years, but lost to Leamington in the first round in April this year.  The final saw a tight and hard fought gala with the team finally coming out on top with 217 points to 2nd placed Leamingtons 211.  Worcester were 3rd with 175.

Another good days racing for the swimmers representing Coventry at the International Childrens Games in Lithuania.

Lauren McConnachie finished 5th in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2.27.20 and Jasmine Marajh finished 2nd in the B final in the 50m Free with 28.33.  Both the 4x100 Free relays had strong performances as well with the girls finishing 7th and the boys 15th.

Ever fancied trying water polo? The Club has a thriving junior polo section for 12-16 yr olds who train on a Sunday night at Coventry Sports Centre. Feel free to come along any week at 6.30-7.00pm to try it out and meet the team and coaches.

Lauren McConnachie, Jasmine Marajh, Isobel Holden, Ellie Fodor, Anthony Nghiem, Ryan Griffiths, Joseph Mcauley and Sam Astill are representing the City in Lithuania and had a great first day.  Highlights of the day were a wonderful Bronze medal for Isobel Holden in the 50m Butterfly in 29.68.  Jasmine Marajh was 5th in the same final with 29.87, while Ryan Griffiths also made the evening finals with 7th in the B Final of the 100m Breaststroke in 1.17.48.  Great job guys!!

Great performances from the swimmers who braved the conditions, weeds and big fish at the Midland Open Water Championships at Bosworth Water over the weekend.

Due to the clubs Graham Sykes Open Meet being held this weekend in the main pool and a large number of the swimmers racing at the meet, training for the majority of groups will be cancelled this Sunday.

Training will run for the Water Polo section as normal, while the Masters session will run for 2.5 hours 5-7.30pm.  Senior Squad training will run from 5-6.30pm and any Senior Performance swimmers not racing at the meet are welcome to join the Senior Squad session at 5pm.
Training for all other groups will be cancelled.

Another record for Lauren Cox amongst a great weekends racing for the City of Coventry swimmers who attended the Hillingdon Meet over the weekend.

Lauren swam 1.03.18 for 100m Backstroke to break the Warwickshire Junior Record of 1.03.45 that had stood for 15 years.

The swimmers came home with 52 medals - 20 Gold, 19 Silver and 13 Bronze.  Great swimming!

Its that time again for a plea for raffle prize donations for the raffle to be held at the Graham Sykes Meet. We especially are after any bottle donations as these always draw people to buy tickets. Anything with a summer theme would also be welcome!

Great team showing again last weekend with the 3rd round of the Junior Leagues.  

The Nuneaton League team racing at Rugby and having won their previous 2 rounds, finished 2nd to Leamington (256 to 221) with Blythe Barracudas 3rd on 172.  This was enough to secure a Top 6 finish in the League and put the team through to the Regional Final in September.

The Leicester League team racing at Braunstone finished a close 2nd to eventual winners Wellingborough (195 to 186) with Loughborough Town 3rd on 176.  This was the third time the Leicester League team had come 2nd this season - a great improvement from previous years.

Well done to all the swimmers, coaches and team managers and we wish the Nuneaton League team all the very best for the Regional Final in September!!

5 of the Masters swimmers had a great weekend in Aberdeen at the Nationals last weekend.  Among a host a best times and great swims, the team came home with 10 medals - a super job.

Kelly Dughmosh led the way with 4 medals - 3 Gold in the 400m, 800m and 1500m Free and a Silver in the 200m Free.  Kelly only narrowly missed the British Record in the 400m Free.
Kieron Carroll came away with a full set of medals - Gold in the 50m Free (breaking 25 seconds - 24.96), Silver in the 100m Free and Bronze in the 200m Free.
Steve Goult finished off the medal haul with 3 Silvers in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke.

There are some notices that are up around Coventry Sports Centre letting the public know that the Pool is closed from 12.30pm on certain Sunday dates. This is because the pool has been hired out to other clubs/users so has been closed to the public. However, this is only to 3pm. Our sessions will run as normal and are not cancelled apart from Sunday 9th July when the sessions are cancelled due to our Open Meet being in the pool.

Super team performance last night at the 2nd Round of the Mercian League held in Nuneaton.  City of Coventry ran out convincing winners with 254 points, over 2nd placed Worcester on 211 and 3rd placed Nuneaton and Bedworth on 194.

We have just had a phone call from Bablake that their boiler has just packed up so the pool is too cold for us to use tonight. Therefore, we are having to cancel the sessions tonight for the Junior Club Older group and the Reception Achievers 2 squad.

There has been some confusion regarding the warm up times tomorrow at the Cov & Districts - the warm up is 12.30.

With Ben still away, Mondays session will be moved to either Green Achievers at Tile Hill 7-8pm or Blue Achievers at Lyng Hall.  Ben is back on Tuesday so Wednesdays session will be back to normal.

Last weekend saw the Junior League swimmers maintain their great form from the 1st round in April, by flying again in the 2nd round. 

The A team racing at Solihull in the Nuneaton League won their gala with 243 points over 2nd placed Worcester on 234 and 3rd placed Rugby on 186.

The B team racing at Hinckley came close again with a battling display, but were just pipped for first by Corby on 231.  City of Coventry were 2nd on 221 with Kimberley 3rd on 203.

The swimmers and coaches will now be working hard and preparing for the 3rd round on 17th June.

Josh Fairchild had another great weekends racing, this time in Braunstone at the East Midlands Disability gala.  
Josh had a heavy programme but still came away with 5 PBs and a clutch of medals - 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze.

47 swimmers from City of Coventry raced at the recent West Midlands Championships and came away with some excellent results.

After the two weekends of racing the swimmers brought home 59 medals in total - 16 Gold, 29 Silver and 14 Bronze.  There were also a host of best times and finalists.

Individual Gold Medallists were Eva Vicary, Josh Fairchild, Aimee Hood, Niall Connell, Lauren McConnachie, Erin Jones, Tom Mitchell, Adam Nash, Hymie Connell and Dan Moore.

Weekend before last saw the 2nd game of the season in the Division 1 of the Midland League, with Coventry away at Champions Solihull.  
An exciting game saw the lads came away with a battling 9-9 draw with a very late equaliser in the last 5 seconds of the game.  Goals came from Matt Hannah (2), Ben Greenhill (3), Les Williams (3) and Dave Lambie (1).

The club have received some large entries over the last few days from visiting clubs and the meet is almost full.  If you are planning on entering then please get your entry in ASAP to avoid disappointment.

Josh Fairchild had a dynamite meet at the British Para-Swimming International in Sheffield last week.  
Josh raced in 7 events (50/100/200/400m Free, 100m Back, 100m Breast and 200m IM) and came home with best times in all 7.  Josh also made the final in his favoured event of the 200m Free.

"With the start of the championships being this Saturday, I would like to draw your attention to a few key points for this weekends gala:
 
1 – As stated in the conditions, withdrawals from all races (apart from the 800m & 1500m Freestyle) must be submitted by 18:00 the day before the race is due to be swum. The West Midlands Championships will be running at Coventry Sports Centre over the next 2 weekends, so there will be some cancellations to training.

There will be no training for any group on Saturday 29th April, Sunday 30th April and Saturday 6th May.  On Sunday 7th May training will be cancelled for all groups except Masters, Senior Performance and Senior Squad.

Please also note that training will be cancelled for all groups on Monday 1st May due to the bank holiday.

Yesterday saw three more of our swimmers racing at the British Championships in Sheffield.  Sophie Stables swam a lifetime best in the 50m Fly, while Rebecca Winn swam a PB at the 50m and 100m split on the way to a huge lifetime best in the 200m Breaststroke.
Lauren Cox also swam a lifetime best to qualify for the 100m Backstroke Junior Final where she eventually finished in 8th place.  Laurens heat swim of 1.03.82 was also a new Warwickshire Junior Record.
Very well done to all the girls!!

Yesterday Eva Vicary had an outstanding swim in the 200m Free at the GB Championships setting a new club record and making the Junior Final in a time of 2:04.41, finally finishing 7th overall.

Awesome job from our Junior League teams last weekend with a really strong showing in the first round of this year’s leagues.  The Nuneaton League team came out on top with 226 points against some very tough opposition in Worcester (2nd on 214 points) and Northampton (3rd on 183 points).  Northampton have won the league three out of the last four years, so this was a great result against a top team.  The Leicester League team also swam brilliantly narrowly losing out on the final race of the gala to Leicester Neptunes in a close fought gala (213.5 points to 208.5 points).
Especially pleasing to see some great swims from our 9 year olds in both teams, who in a lot of cases were racing for the very first time.  
Very well done to all the swimmers, coaches and team managers!  Keep the date of the next round free – Saturday 13th May.

We have had notification from GForce that there is to be a 5% price increase on the club kit from 1st May, this is the first price increase in the two years since they have been supplying us with the kit. This is down to the cost prices within their supply chain reacting adversely to the wider economic uncertainty. This has had a particular impact on labour, raw materials and shipping.Current prices will be in affect until the 30th April.

On the results from Fridays sprint night (31st) you may notice that some swimmers have two times down on the link. This is due to the fact that we have had two sprint nights in March. On the link on the 31st the system has done a summary for March, not just isolated the 31st March results so those swimmers who have done both sprint nights in March have both results showing, those that just did the 31st will have the one.

We are looking into how to separate them apart, its not very often we have two sprint nights in the same month so this is a rare problem that we have had.

Ben is away on a training course on Monday 10th April, so we will need to re-arrange the Red Achiever session for that night unfortunately.
The session will be moved to either the Blue Achiever session at Lyng Hall 6-7pm or the Green Achievers session at Tile Hill 7-8pm.

10 members of Senior Elite attended a meet in Lyon, France over the weekend and came home with some great results.  The team won 15 medals in all - 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze.  There were also 13 other Top 8 finishes made by the swimmers.

There were medals for Rebecca Winn (Gold in the 100m Breast, 200m Breast, 400m IM and Silver in the 200m IM), Eva Vicary (Gold in the 200m Free, 400m Free, 50m Breast and Bronze in the 100m Free), Lauren Cox (Gold in the 50m and 100m Backstroke), Ollie Hall (Silver in the 50m Breast), Sophie Stables (Silver in the 50m Fly), Ana Vicary (Silver in the 400m Free), Lauren McConnachie (Silver in the 200m Fly) and Maddy Hoare (Bronze in the 400m Free).

Special mention to Lauren Cox who broke her own Warwickshire Junior Record in the 50m Back in a time of 29.77.

Joshua swam in the Midlands Spring Para Champs in Nottingham at the weekend and came away with a Gold in his 200 Free, a silver in his 100 back and a great swim on his 200 IM with a big Pb and gaining another Silver.

Great weekends racing at Rugby and Swansea this weekend!

The Masters section raced at Swansea and came home with a host of best times and medals.  At the Rugby Open our swimmers came away with the most medals of any visiting club – 60 in total (21 Gold, 22 Silver and 17 Bronze).

The University of Warwick have asked us to change our date booked for the June Development Gala as they are holding a Family Day at the Uni on the original date planned and wish to use the pool.

Unfortunately due to low ticket sales the Club have had to make a decision to cancel the Beach Party planned for the 11th March. Thanks to Claire Smith for organising the event.

The club are always looking for ways to enhance the experience for the members so if anyone has any ideas for social events that the club could run please let us know.

We are very sorry but we are struggling for coaching cover tonight at Lyng Hall, so are going to have to move the sessions to Caludon.  This will just be for this week only.

Both the HA3 session and Junior Club (younger) session will move to Caludon - the HA3 session will run 6.45-8.30pm and the Junior Club session will run 6.45-8pm.

We need all swimmers who are not swimming to tell us, either by email to rugbyopen@rugbyswimmingclub.co.uk before midday on 3rd March, or by handing in a withdrawal form at the timing desk after 3rd March. Withdrawal forms are attached and need to be handed in at least one hour before the start of the session. For session 1 withdrawals, please email rather than use forms on the day.

Poolside Organisation
We have a full meet, so we need to keep close control on poolside access. We ask that you don’t bring fold-up chairs. There are ledges around the pool to sit on. Please place bags high up on the window sills to save space.

Awesome job from the team on Saturday at the annual Coventry & District Team Races.  The event compromises of four age bands - 9s, 10+11s, 12-14s and 15+, with A and B races of 4x50 Freestyle and 4x50 Medley in each age group.

Of the 32 events City of Coventry finished with 18 Gold, 8 Silver and 1 Bronze.

The Region have organised a Young Volunteer Programme for young people aged 14-16yrs by the 27th Feb. The programme is designed to give an introduction to volunteering within sport and swimming and give the basics to helping out on poolside.

The dates of the courses are Monday 27th Feb 7.00-9.00pm for a First steps into Coaching course and then Friday 10th & 17th March 5.30-8.30pm for the Aquatics Helper course. All courses are at Coventry Sports Center.

There is a £20 charge for this. If you are interested in doing this programme then please email me for more details and the form. If you want to commit to being put forward for the courses then please email me before 12pm Monday so I can ensure we meet Mondays deadline.

If you have entered an event at the forthcoming Warwickshires and for whatever reason  do not intend to compete in that event please can you use the withdrawal facility on the Warwickshire ASA website.

We have had a message from the County that both weekends are extremely busy and if empty lanes could be avoided it would be a help to cut down the timings.

With the Development Gala being on Sunday 5th February and all the groups from High Achievers and below racing there, we will change the session times around for the remaining groups.  This will give these groups the opportunity to have a longer session.

3-5pm will be Senior Performance, Junior Performance and Senior Squad.  Land-work for these groups will run from 5.15-6pm.
5-7pm will be the various Masters groups.
7pm onwards will be the Water Polo sections.

Just a quick note to let you know that training on Sunday 29th January and Sunday 12th February will be cancelled for all groups due to the Warwickshire County Championships.  

Water Polo will run as usual from 7.30pm.

Tickets are now available for the City of Coventry Swimming Club Beach Party! This will be held at the Cheylesmore Social Club on Saturday 11th March 2017 and is open to all members of the club and their families. The night will start at 6pm with a surf simulator and other beach games, followed by a fish and chip supper (alternatives available) and then a disco until late. Fancy dress is encouraged, come dressed for the beach, whether thats a bikini and grass skirt, or a loud shirt and shorts. It will be a great opportunity for the whole club to get together and have fun. Tickets are competitively priced at £8 for adults, £5 for under 16s and a family ticket (2A 2C) at £24 and this includes all entertainment and food. We have had word from the staff at Caludon Castle to say they have had a couple of instances where parents of our swimmers have brought dogs into the centre.  They have asked we remind you that no dogs (except guide dogs) are allowed on the premises at any time.

If you could ensure this policy is adhered to, we would be grateful.

An exciting event is happening at the Albany Theatre this February on Friday 17th, a charity Gala in order to raise funds to send children to the International Games this summer! The event will be a variety performance, featuring young people from the local area. They have singers, dancers, exerts from musicals! This year the Club want to send out the Membership invoices for 2017 by email instead of via the post. We had ran a test to ensure all would be well which worked fine. When we tried last night to run them live it ran with an error. As soon as we discovered the fault, we stopped the system from sending any further messages, and have now fixed the error. 
We will re-send the invoices in the next few days, once we are confident that the fix that has been put in place has worked.

Apologies, I had put out the wrong dates for the Devon Tour yesterday, the tour is the 30th July to the 4th or 5th August 2017. Return date to be confirmed.

This years Devon Tour is due to take place 30th July to 5th or 6th August (TBC). We know have availability forms which can be completed available on the club website under - squads - Devon - bottom of the page. The forms will also appear on the home page as soon as possible. The closing date for these forms is the 18th February 2017 so please take a look if you are aged 10, 11 or 12 years old by 31st Dec and a current club member who has competed in sprint night since September.

We are really sorry for the disruption, but the Junior Club (older) session at Bablake 6-7pm tonight will be cancelled.  Rihon is ill, as well as a number of other coaches, and so we are short of staff.

We have had word that the Rugby Open in March is filling up quickly so our entry will need to be sent off tomorrow.  Please get your entry in today to avoid missing out.

The Club Championships are being held next Sunday (11th December)and we are still very short of officials to run the meet.  We license the meet with the ASA so all the times the swimmers produce go onto ASA rankings, but this means there is a certain level of officiating needed to assure the correct standards are met.

Training that day will be cancelled for all groups except Water Polo.

For those who wish to know we have had details of Johns funeral from his family, it is to be held on Monday 12th December at 9.45am at Canley Crematorium, details of the gathering afterwards are to be advised.

Please note that the entry is now open for the Rugby Open Meet which is in early March 2017 - please enter as usual through the our club website.  This meet last year was over-subscribed so we will be closing the entry in mid-December to ensure we get all our entries in.

Due to some late withdrawals due to illness, the club are very short of officials for this weekends Open Meet.  This is a plea to anyone who can help to come forward and volunteer.  We are especially short on Sunday, with the afternoon session being in dire need of support.

The Club had some sad news today of the passing of John Hughes.

John has been a member of Co Coventry SC since the mid seventies when his daughters joined to learn to swim. 
He became a qualified official, but also took on admin work in the club – running the Tuesday and Friday night sessions at the old Foleshill pool. When this facility was no longer required, John came to the central baths and helped there – where he was seen on many a Friday night.
He became club treasurer and has looked after the club’s finances for many years very successfully – guarding our expenditure as if it was his own only recently passing over the reins. He had been an active member at Coventry & District ASC and for many years had served on the Warwickshire executive.
In the 1980s the club did a lot of fundraising to purchase an electronic timing system. John immediately took charge of this and has nursed and cared for it ever since. He would be seen at every event held in the Coventry pool operating the timing system – be it a club event, county championships or regional championships – he also operated it for other events such as the National Schools’ championships, National Lifesaving Championships, National Police Championships to name a few.
John give his time willingly to many other activities – the Coventry schools’ galas, development galas and various other bodies such as Guides swimming events.
John was a true volunteer in every sense and brought much expertise and time to our sport.
John will be sadly missed by one and all, our condolences to his Family at this time RIP John.

The warm up for the Development Gala is 2.30pm on the 20th November (this Sunday) and the start time for the first heat will be 3.00pm.

Entry cost for spectators is £2 and there will be no raffle as indicated in the entry info due to us running one hopefully at the November Open Meet the week after and also at the Club Championships.

The Water Polo section are running an open session on Sunday at 6pm so we are moving some of the session times forward for the swimming groups just for this coming Sunday.

Training for the two Reception Achievers groups, the Coloured Achiever groups and the High Achiever groups will be cancelled as most swimmers will be racing at the Development Gala at Warwick University.

The sessions for Junior Performance and Senior Performance will be moved forward to a 3.00-4.30pm time slot.  Land-work will then be afterwards till 5.30pm in Studio 1.

The sessions for Masters and Senior Squad will be moved forward to 4.30-6.00pm.

Any swimmers aged 12 or over from any group wishing to attend the Water Polo Taster session are encouraged to do so.  This session is free of charge will take place in the main pool from 6pm onwards.

Each year the Club send out Christmas cards from the President to various people and Organisations. This year it has been decided to run a competition for the design of these cards with the winner being announced at the Club Champs. The winning design will be the design of the card. Closing date for entries is the 30th November.

This year there will be an exciting finale to Club Champs with a Cannon Relay Race! 8 teams of swimmers made up from all squads will compete in a fast and furious 50m freestyle relay. If you have entered Club Champs and would like to be considered for this event please send a brief e mail to Claire.smith@coventry-swimming.org.uk with the swimmers name and squad. We will try and include as many swimmers as possible but keeping the teams as even as we can. Therell be festive prizes for the winning team!

We have had word from Lyng Hall that the roof is now fixed and everything will be back to normal for tomorrow night.  For tonights sessions please go to the same venues/times you have been attending on Mondays for the last couple of weeks, but from tomorrow (Tuesday 1st November) all groups will be back to their normal Tuesday sessions.

As most of you will know Lauren Stewart, coach of Junior Club and Reception Achievers 2, has decided to step down from the coaching staff.  Lauren has been a member of the coaching team for a year now as well as being a swim teacher for the club at Lyng Hall School and a swimmer herself for many years previously.  

We would like to thank Lauren for all her hard work with the club – she will be sorely missed.  Could we take this opportunity to wish Lauren all the best!

Very well done to Josh Fairchild after another good showing, this time at the Midland Para Championships.

Josh came away with a huge best time in his 200m IM as well as 3 Silvers in the 200m IM, the 200m Free and 100m Back.

Solid swims from both the A and B teams in the first round of the National Arena League last weekend.  

The A team racing at Rugby finished 2nd by just 2 points to Worcester in a very close-fought gala.  The B team racing at Leamington also finished 2nd to Pershore.

Well done to all the swimmers and good look for the 2nd round in mid-November.

Thanks to everyone who donated their Coventry Recycling Club points to us. We have received an email today to let us know we received 40,589 points from Coventry Recycling Club members. As a result we have been awarded £300!

This is a great achievement and will go into the fundraising pot for future use.

Our Water Polo section have organised a number of taster sessions over the next couple of weeks and any members of the swimming section are very welcome to go along to try things out.
The first taster session is at Caludon Castle on Monday 31st October 6.45-8.30pm.  It is open to any swimmers who are 12 years or over.
The next sessions will be at 6pm on Sunday evenings at Coventry Sports Centre on the 6th and 20th November.

We have had word that there are some structural problems in the roof at Lyng Hall and they have had to close the pool immediately.

The school have provisionally put a re-opening date for the pool of the end of half term (30th October), but we will obviously have to see how this goes.

With Lyng Hall shut we will need to move some groups around to accommodate the closure.  We are sorry for the disruption but obviously some of the sessions might be busier for the next few weeks until Lyng Hall is re-opened – we ask that you bear with us.  The changes are listed below:

Monday – Red and Blue Achievers move to Tile Hill 7-8pm.
Monday - Reception Achievers 1 move to Foxford 6.30-7.30pm.
Tuesday – Junior Club 1 move to Coventry 8.30-9.30pm.

Unfortunately we have had contact from the School this lunchtime with info that they have had to close the pool due to a problem with the roof. The School are working to get it rectified as soon as possible but the earliest we are being told will be after the 30th October. 

Therefore, tonights HA2 session will be moved to Caludon Castle 6.45-8.30pm. Apologies for the change, it is obviously out of our control.

Further details of session changes over the next two weeks will be published shortly.

This will also affect the Adult Improver lessons tonight and the swim school activities over the next three weekends.

We have found a kit bag on poolside. It has been here for most of the week. The bag contains a pair of nabaiji fins, a kick board with hands drawn on it, a pullbouy with KALS written on it, and some black arena finger paddles.

If you believe this is your kit bag, please come and retrieve it from our club office, or ask at the club night desk on poolside.

Just over a week to go to our popular Sprint Meet and we are very short of officials. If you are able to provide some free time to volunteer for the meet it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks to all who donated vouchers from the Sainsburys Active Kids scheme. We have taken delivery of the kit these vouchers bought this week, we have received:

3 stop watches to go towards being used on sprint nights & time trials
4 foam rollers to be used for land work
12 skipping ropes again to be used for generic land work sessions.

We look forward to taking part in this again next year so look out for the vouchers when they become available.

We have just had word from Tile Hill that the pool clarity is very poor and so they have had to cancel the session due to health and safety concerns.

If any Green swimmers want to try and make the Red session at Foxford 6.30-7.30 they are welcome.

We have been invited to take part in a Giant flag wave before the Wasps vs. Exeter match.
This will be taking place on Sunday 4th September  at  3 Oclock and held at the Ricoh Arena, and children can then stay to watch the match for free.  If any parents also want to come and watch the price for a ticket is £16 
We are looking for 40 children to take part and will be chosen on  first come first serve basis, aged 10 years plus.  Children will be required to meet outside the front of the stadium at 2:15 and will need to wear a swimming club shirt/hoodie. 
There is a consent form for parents to return to either your parent Rep or the club desk no later than Friday the 26th of august.

Long delays on the m5 which continue to slow our progress. We will update

Good morning Devon Tour Parents: We have just left the accommodation 
and on route to woodlands theme park for the day. I will post information on 
departure time of leaving the theme park and and expected time of arrival 
this evening to Coventry.

Today, Thursday on route to ultimate adventure centre for total wipeout 
course, high ropes, nerd arena and more activities....for the day. Gala 4 at 
Barnstaple swimming club.

After a fabulous day at quay west water park, gala 3 at Dawlish swimming 
club: Dawlish B 5th place with 45 points, Oddicombe 4th place 64 points, 
3rd place Phoneix team 118 points, 2nd place Godvia team 131 points and 
1st place Dawlish A swimming club 148 points. Well done. All now eating 
chips. Thank you Dawlish for hosting for us. 

All enjoyed yesterdays outside activities gorge scrambling, rock climbing 
and a trip to the cinema seeing BFG.
Wednesday: currently on way to the water park, this evening will be gala 3 
at Dawlish Swimming Club.

Monday: All having a great time, today been very busy with laser games, 
visit to the beach and competing. Both teams winning Phoneix team 1st 
place 169 points and Godvia 2nd 161 points. On way now back to the 
accommodation. Children will contact you once we are back as there is

2nd day of the International Childrens Games and another great swim from Lauren McConnachie to make the final of the 200m IM.  Lauren went on to finish 8th in the final.
Great job!!

Great first days results from Taipei and the International Childrens Games.  Lauren McConnachie made the final of the 400m Free and finished in 8th place.  There were also B final appearances for Lauren in the 100m Breast and Isabel Holden in the 100m Backstroke.

Ana Vicary, Hadden Smith, Ryan Pahile, Anthony Nghiem, Charlie Anderson and Ollie Hurst also all raced well today.

Great team performance on Saturday night in the final of the Mercian League.  After being champions in 2013 and 2014 but losing out to Leamington in 2015, the team were desperate to win back the trophy.  After a hard fought gala City of Coventry came out on top with 221 points over 2nd placed Leamington on 194.  Stratford Sharks were 3rd on 167 points.

Very well done to all the swimmers, coaches and team managers on a great win!!

We are asking for people for donations of unwanted clothes, 
bags and shoes to be recycled to help turn into cash for 
fund raising towards this years Devon Tour 2016.
The first collection of clothes, shoes  hand bags being 
picked up on Monday Morning 11th July, so if you have any 
clothes etc in bags ready, please bring down to the club 
desk tonight, Saturday and Sunday at the gala at Cov Baths.

If you dont think you may not have enough time to sort, 
theres a second collection day Monday 18th July for pick 
up. So next week if your child is swimming at either Lyng 
Hall, Foxford school, Caludon castle I can arrange to pick 
up from you at these venues.

Training will be cancelled for all groups this Sunday except for the Masters and Water Polo sections.  The Graham Sykes meet isnt due to finish till quite late and with most swimmers/coaches involved with the meet, training will be cancelled.

The Masters and Polo sessions will run as normal.

There are some swimmers who have entered the Graham Sykes meet at the weekend and are also selected for the Mercian League Final on Saturday evening.  If these swimmers wish to withdraw from their events at the Graham Sykes Meet on Saturday afternoon (session 2), the club will refund the entry fee for those events.  The club wont refund events for any other sessions, or for swimmers who arent racing in the Mercian League Final.

If this applies to you and you wish to withdraw, please send an email to withdraw@coventry-swimming.org.uk stating which events you wish to withdraw from.

The Leicester League Team racing at Hinckley came 2nd only 14 points behind eventual winners Kettering.
The Nuneaton League Team racing in Stafford were drawn against reigning champions and eventual gala winners Northampton and like the Leicester League Team, came out in 2nd place.

This year we have introduced some new awards to Awards Night so everyone has a chance of going home with a trophy. As well as more progress awards covering all squads, all swimmers have a chance to vote for their Swimmers Swimmer of the Year. This should not necessarily be your best friend, or the best swimmer in your squad, but someone who trains hard, is friendly and polite, helps others out and shows good swimming etiquette. The voting will go live on the club website over the next few days, look out for it!!

On Saturday the 16th July Lauren Baraclough, from Senior Performance, and a team of fellow swimmers will be hoping to swim the channel as a team and want as many people involved as possible. All money will go to a fantastic cause to support a 3 year old who is in desperate need to have a £12000 operation enabling him to walk. The event starts at 8AM and will finish around 10.15AM. Sponsor forms will be available from the club noticeboard as of Friday. Obviously, the more sponsors the better and the entry fee to enter will be £5.

The club had some super results coming away with 19 medals in all - 1 Gold, 12 Silver and 6 Bronze.

There is an EDL march planned for the City centre tomorrow which coincides with the Midland Championships. The march plans to protest at Speakers corner, opposite the Council house between 1.30-2.00pm and 4pm. 

There is also a UAF counter demo in Broadgate.

Josh Fairchilds excellent form continued at the weekend with another large medal haul, this time at the East Midlands Disability Championships.
Josh came away with 9 medals in all - 6 from individuals and 3 from relays.  There was Gold in the 100 Free, 200 Free and 50 Breast as well as Silver in the 50 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back.

An excellent weekends racing at the West Midlands Youth Championships in Coventry last weekend.  The team came away with 44 medals from the meet - 16 Gold, 18 Silver and 10 Bronze.
Leading the way was Eva Vicary with 4 Golds, Lauren Cox with 3 Golds, Josh Fairchild with 3 Golds and 2 Silvers and Brad McLeavy with 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
Overall City of Coventry had 15 individual medallists - best haul in many years.
Very well done to all the swimmers and coaches!

We are going to have a photo of evenyone who swam at the Midland Youth 
Championship for the paper. Can we ask that you bring your City of 
Coventry t-shirts and if you won medals, bring those as well. The photo will

We are sad to announce that Tom Herbert will be leaving the club and the coaching staff.  Tom has been a member of the club for over 5 years first as a successful swimmer who regularly swam at Nationals, then the coach of HA3 for the past 9 months.  

Tom has got a full-time job with the Sports Trust and unfortunately this will not allow him the time to coach.  He will be stopping on as coaching cover when he is able, but will not be able to lead his own group.

Could we thank Tom for all his hard work and wish him well with his new job!

Well done to all the team for a great first place in the first round last Saturday of the Mercian League. Coventry finished first with 237 points, Worcester were second with 209 and Bilston third with 175 points.

There were individual wins for Jade Pickett, Aidan Tan, Sarah Brown, Danielle Armstrong (x2), Kieran Smith (x2), Alfie Jackson, Sam Astill & Mel McWhirter along with eight relay wins.

Well done Josh on completing a straight run of personal bests in Glasgow at the Para Meet. Yesterday he swam the 200m freestyle and made the final after dropping his personal best in the heat to 2:24.81 and then again in the final to 2:22.46.

Six swims, six personal bests and two finals, great swimming, well done Josh and Coach; Matt Bruce.

Josh has had some excellent swims so far in Glasgow...... 4 swims and 4 personal bests.... 

100m Free Josh has dropped from a 1:07.9 at Warwickshires to a 1:05.0, 100m Breast 1.33.7 at Warwickshires to a 1:31.4 in the heats to then earn a second swim in another pb time of 1:29.5 and then in the 100m back Josh has dropped from a 1:25.0 at Warwickshires to 1:20.64 in Glasgow. Josh has his main event to come tomorrow. Great results Josh!

Congratulations to John Smith who achieved two new Scottish Masters Long Course Records in the 200m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly in the 40-44 age group at the recent Masters Nationals in Sheffield. A full report from the meet will be posted on the website soon.

The club have 14 Masters qualified for the upcoming European Masters championships in May being hosted in London and preparations are looking good.

There will be no training for most of the swimming groups on Sunday 1st May due to the pool hosting the West Midlands Youth Championships.  Sessions will be cancelled for all groups except Water Polo, Masters, Senior Squad and Senior Performance.  These sessions will run as usual at the regular times. 

Training for all groups will be cancelled on Monday 2nd May due to the bank holiday.

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed in Glasgow over the past week. Finishing up over the weekend were Abi Humphreys in the 200m IM in a time of 2:23.87, Eva Vicary in the 400m Free 4:28.74 and Matt Bruce in the 50m Free in a time of 23.50.

Due to the Movement of the Cov & District secondaries into May we have had to move the next Development Gala to Sunday 12th June still at the University of Warwick. The details for entry will be available soon.

Just had an update from Lyng Hall, unfortunately they are going to be closed all week up to and including Sunday 24th April. The repairs should be completed by Friday, but it will then take a couple of days to bring the pool temp back up and complete all necessary cleansing.

Therefore, training changes for the squads/groups affected are:

Blue Achievers - can swim with either Red at Foxford (6.30-7.30pm Monday & weds) or Green at Tile Hill (7.00-8.00pm Monday & 7.15-8.15pm on Weds)
Reception Achievers 1 on Monday - we will move your session to Caludon still at 7.00-8.15pm.

Junior Squad on Tuesday can swim with Junior Club at Cov Sports Center 8.30-9.30pm.

Weds Adult Improver Lessons - Unfortunately we are going to have to cancel these again this week.

HA2 on Thursday - Same as last week you can move to Caludon and swim 6.45-8.30pm.

Junior Club - same as last week you can move to Cov Sports Center at the same time 7.30-8.30pm.

Friday Adult beginner lessons & Cov Swim School lessons on Saturday and Sunday we will have to postpone until the following weekend.

Well done to the swimmers in Glasgow at Olympic Trials. So far we have had Abi Humphreys achieve second in the Tokyo Final (aimed at swimmers who potentially aiming for the Olympics in 2020) in a time of 4:52.97 and also in the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2:20.30, Eva Vicary in the 200m Free in a time of 2:07.46 and Alex Carroll in the 400m IM, 4:44.12.

Still to come is Abi in the 200m IM, Eva in the 400m Free and Matt Bruce starts in the 50m Freestyle all going in the heats tomorrow (Saturday). British swimming are live streaming the heats and finals on you tube if you want to check them out!

We have had an update from Lyng Hall, the pool company have been in today and are going to attempt to put things right over the weekend. The school will reassess first thing Monday morning and will update us as soon as this has been done. 

It is looking hopeful that everything will be back to normal as of Monday.

I will update when we hear from the school. 

The School have confirmed that the ongoing problems with their pool have meant they will have to close it over the weekend. Therefore, there will be no Adult lessons tomorrow night (Fri 15th) or Childrens lessons on Sat (16th) or Sunday (17th).

The school are going to update us as soon as they know whether it will be back open next week.

We have just had notice that Lyng Hall have had to close their pool today and tomorrow due to the pool malfunctioning and a load of grit has poured in. They are working on it at the moment but have closed for the next two days.

The Nuneaton team finished in second place behind Boldmere and there were first placings for Alfie Jackson, Erin Jones, Anna Harvey, Niall Connell (x2), Evan McWhirter, Abigail Charlesworth and also for the 11/u medley & free Team and the 12/u free Team. 

The Leicester Team finished in third place behind Daventry & Swadlincote. First placings in this round went to Joel Cunningham, Mollie Tranter, Tommy Smith (x2), Katelyn Dalton, Fiona Hall, Sam Astill, Jamie Mitchell and the boys 12/under free & medley teams and girls 10/under Free and medley teams.

Congratulations to all the swimmers in the teams, all contributing to a great start of the league season.

An awesome showing from our Masters at last weekends National Championships in Sheffield.

Highlights included Gold for Anthony Howland over 100m Butterfly in the 55/59 years category, two Silvers for John Smith over 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle in 35/39 years category and Silver and Bronze for Steve Goult over 200m and 100m Breaststroke in the 40/44 years age band.

You may have seen in the news last night that the Council have announced that a 50m Pool could be built at the Alan Higgs Centre to be built to coincide with Coventry Sports Centre closing in 2019. This is great news and what we have been waiting to hear!

There is still a long way to go, and funding needs to be secured in order for it to come to fruition, but the fact it has been announced goes a long way to seeing a replacement to Fairfax Street.

We look forward to a great future for swimming in the City!

Great win for the Junior Team on Saturday at the Solihull Junior Gala.  The team came on top after a hard fought gala with 243 points ahead of 2nd placed Rugby with 219 and Solihull in 3rd on 202.

The team won 24 of the 51 events and there were individual wins for Aidan Tan, Alfie Jackson, Darcy Moriarty, Fiona Hall, Hanna Dixon, Evan McWhirter, Niall Connell, Alana Timms and Euan Mitchell.

We have had word that President Kennedys pool will be closed on the Thursday after half-term - the 25th.  The technique session that night will therefore be cancelled.

The school are going to keep us informed each week about the pools progress, so we will continue to let you know about the session when we are updated.

Please be aware of the Jimmy Hill Memorial service that is taking place on Friday (12th) at 3pm at the Cathedral. We would envisage there be an increase in traffic around this time and afterwards and also a limit on car parking spaces.

 

We are very sorry but due to a staff shortage, the HA1 session will be cancelled on Tuesday 16th February.

We are sorry for the disruption but the Junior Club session will be moved on Tuesday 16th February to Lyng Hall 7.30-9pm.  This is alongside Junior Squad.

We are sorry for the disruption but due to a staff shortage we will be moving the HA3 session to Caludon on a Tuesday night.  The session will run 6.45-8.30pm alongside the Junior Performance session.

This will run for the foreseeable future.

We have had reports today from the University that poolside and the pool balcony were left in a very messy state yesterday after the gala – one example given to us was a banana skin dumped into the poolside guttering which is simply not acceptable.

This is just a quick note out to parents/swimmers that no food or drink other than water is permitted on poolside and that all litter from the pool balcony must be left in the bins provided.

We have a good relationship with the University and we would like to withhold this as best we can.

We are sorry for the disruption but the land-work session will be cancelled for Junior Performance on Sunday 7th February.  Joe is away in Sheffield attempting to qualify for the Olympic Trials so cant take his normal session.  Sam Fairchild will cover the swim session which will run as normal, but sadly the land-work will be cancelled for this week.

We are sorry to report the problems continue with the pool at President Kennedy, so tonights session will be cancelled again.  The Thursday session will also be cancelled until after half-term.  The school are hoping the repairs will be completed by then and we can recommence the sessions.

Just to confirm there will be no training tomorrow night at President Kennedy School. The school have a problem with the pool and have closed it now till the New Year.

Things will hopefully be back to normal for January.

Saturday saw the West Midlands final of the National Arena League.  In a hard fought and closely contested final City of Coventry came out in 2nd place only 7 points behind eventual winners, City of Derby.  The 2nd place means the team goes through to the National B Final in Cardiff in April.

The clubs B team also contested a tough final round in Division 2.  A very close gala meant a few disqualifications unfortunately cost the team a potential 2nd place, eventually finishing in 5th.

The sports centre have some essential maintenance going on tonight so the hall that Senior Squad usually use is out of action.  For tonights session we will combine Senior Squad and Senior Performance together for the land-work so the session will start at 7pm and be in the Activity Gallery.

Due to staff illness we are unfortunately having to cancel the Adult improver sessions at Lyng Hall tonight, both the 7pm & 8pm sessions. Things should be back to normal next week.

Thanks to all the donations we had for the raffles recently, we raised £190 over the weekend at the open meet.

We would like to run one too at the Club Championships on the 13th December and are looking for further donations for Clare to create her hampers from. Things we are looking for are alcoholic and non alcoholic bottles and sweets for the sweet cones. If they could come into the Club Night table this Friday (4th Dec) that would be appreciated.

To run the Club Championships an army of volunteers is required in particular qualified officials and club timekeepers. Please contact avril.ementon@coventry-swimming.org to ensure these championships are staffed to a level to allow the meet to go ahead

This weekend is our Level 3 Open Meet and so training will be slightly altered.  The meet is not due to finish until 4pm, so training for the Reception groups, the Coloured Achievers and High Achievers will move to 4.30-6pm.  

There will be no land-work for any group.

Any swimmer from Junior Performance not racing at the meet can also swim in the 4.30-6pm session.

The Masters session at 6pm will run as normal.  Any swimmer from Senior Performance or Senior Squad not racing at the meet can also swim at 6pm.

The new Club kit will be available for viewing tonight on the balcony. Please come and have a look at it, especially for the sizing as it is coming out on the smaller size. Could make some ideal Christmas Presents! Delivery is at least 2-3 weeks at the moment if they are being personalised so if you are thinking of Christmas presents you may wish to bear this in mind.

Also on sale tonight on the balcony will be the Golden Tickets, tickets cost £5.00 each and the prize is a £200 voucher for Allens, a swimwear shop. Draw to be made on Sunday 29th November at our Open Meet.

Due to everyone being at the Development Gala on Sunday 22nd November the 3.00pm training sessions for Reception 1 & 2 plus the coloured achievers has been cancelled.

The Pathway 1 & 2 plus the 4:15pm/4:30pm sessions will run as normal.

Up for grabs is a £200 voucher at Allens of Kingsbury in 
our Golden Ticket Raffle. The draw will take place on 
Sunday 29th November at the November Open Meet. Tickets are 
on sale now for £5.00 from the club night desk or our 
designated sales team. There is a limited number of tickets 
available, so get yours soon before they run out.

There is a Devon Tour 2016 Meeting planned for next Friday - 20th November in Spire Suite 1 (4th Floor on the fry side of Coventry Sports Centre) at 6.15-6.45pm. 

The aim of the meeting is to give you some background information about the tour and what it is about, how the team is selected etc and your chance to meet the Tour leaders Gary & Calie Smith and ask any questions you may have.

Selection availability forms are also now available from the Club website or from Calie on a Friday night.

I will be hosting a meeting for any new parent or anyone who wishes to come along and learn more about the Club and how it operates on Friday 13th November 6-7pm. Venue is Spire Suite 1 on the far side (dry side) of the Sports Centre - 4th floor.

Topics to be discussed are competitions (how to enter and which ones plus all you need to know about race day), squad structures & processes for moving groups, who is who, how to order the new kit amongst others. 

There will be an open forum at the end to ask any questions and also talk to other parents to help guide you with any queries.

We will finish at 7pm to allow you to collect your swimmers at the end of their sessions.

Last weekend saw some great swims from the team at both the Wycombe and Gloucester Open Meets.

The team came home from Wycombe with 27 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.  There was also a Top Girl award for Lucy Cowen.

Meanwhile in Gloucester the team won 28 Gold, 29 Silver and 24 Bronze medals on the way to securing the Top Club award.  There were also Top Swimmer awards in their respective age groups for Erin Jones, Holly Gregory and Tom Mitchell.

Very well done to all the swimmers, coaches and staff!

We are sorry for the late notice but Rodney is not very well today, so the Junior Squad session will be moved to Caludon tonight to swim alongside the Junior Performance group.  The session will be 6.45-8.30pm.

We are starting to plan for the raffles again this season at various events through the year and are asking for any donations to raffle prizes. What we are mainly looking out for are any bottle pleas (either alcoholic or non!) plus any jelly sweets that children like. Clare burden who makes up the hampers for the open Meets can then work her magic with the sweet cones too.

If any donations could come into the Club Night Desk or passed to your coach to bring in that would be appreciated. If we could have any donations by Friday 13th November that will give Clare plenty of time to compile the donations.

Blue Achiever swimmers can attend the Red Achievers session at Foxford on Monday 6.30-7.30pm or the Green Achievers session at Tile Hill on Monday 7.00-8.00pm, to make up for the missed session at Lyng Hall.

The changes made this year meant some of our swimmers werent eligible to swim, but we still came away with a whopping 73 medals from across the 3 days of competition - 23 Gold, 26 Silver and 24 Bronze.

Kyle Offer ran the Coventry Fun Run last weekend in less than 30 minutes and has raised over £100 in the process of which £50 goes to the Swimming Club and the other 50% goes to the Coventry Jubilee Rotary Club. Great fundraising Kyle!

Really solid results from the 1st round of the National Arena League at the weekend from both the City of Coventry teams.

The A team were racing at Leamington and came out on top with 229 points ahead of 2nd placed Gloucester City on 188 and 3rd placed Leicester Sharks on 176.  The team had 17 wins from the 50 races which was very pleasing.

The B team were racing in Derby and also had a good evenings work.  The team finished 3rd on 159 points behind eventual winners Sutton in Ashfield on 246 and City of Derby B on 211.  

The teams will be out later this week for the next round which is on Saturday 14th November - swimmers are asked to please make every effort to be available for selection so we can field our strongest teams.

There was Silver for Tom Mitchell in the Junior 200m Back and 400m Free, Silver for Charlie Waddingham in the Senior 100m Breaststroke and Bronze for Eva Vicary in the Intermediate 400m Free.
Lauren McConnachie, Madeleine Hoare, Rebecca Winn, Alex Carroll and Joseph Iacovides were also part of the team.  Joseph also set new Warwickshire Junior Records in the 800m and 1500m Free.

Very well done to all the swimmers from all at City of Coventry!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim Tranter for his work with the coaching staff over the past couple of years.  

Jim has unfortunately had to stand down from the coaching staff due to his work commitments.  Jim started out helping with the land-work for Junior Performance 1+2, then moved on to be the coach of Green Achievers, before spending the last year as coach of High Achievers 1.

Some of you may have noticed last Sunday I was on 
poolside for the Reception & Achiever session with a 
group of coaches. Last weekend I started a Level 1 
Coaching course and it will continue this weekend and 
next. 

There are 16 people on the course and they will be using 
the reception Achiever & coloured Achiever sessions today 
and the next two Sundays (20th & 27th Sept) for their 
practical side of the course. All of the coaches will be 
under my guidance and the sessions they will be 
delivering will fit in with the Coventry coaches plans. 
The normal squad coaches will also be on poolside as 
normal to help with the swimmers and also offer guidance 
to the coaches on the course. This should allow no 
disruption to the coaching the swimmers will receive.

places left on the course which is open to all clubs in the 
Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire area. Places are

Just to make all of you aware, if you represented the City of Coventry in any league competition from October 2014 to August 2015 you will receive a medal at the Awards Night on Friday evening.

We would like to thank Jacob Scullion and Cat Pabla for their time and effort both as swimmers and coaches with the club, as they move onto new things.

Jacob has been with the club since 2005 while Cat has been here since 2006.  Both were excellent swimmers before moving into coaching when they decided to finish competitive swimming.  Cats work with Junior Club and Reception Achievers has been excellent over the last few years, while Jacob has really moved Junior Performance 2 on during the past 2 years.  Both Cat and Jacob also worked hard with the Club Night swimmers on a Friday night.

Jacob is leaving to spend a year in Spain as part of his degree studies, while Cat has just got a full-time job which sadly doesnt allow her time to coach.

Once again could we thank them both for their hard work and commitment to the club!!

Lauren Stewart (Junior Club) and Joe Evans (JP2) will be taking over from Cat and Jacob.  Could we ask that you make them feel very welcome as they settle into their new roles.

As with the Squad sessions there will be no Pathways 
session this Sunday (30th August) due to the bank Holiday 
weekend.

All will be back to normal on Friday 4th September.

The West Midlands Region are running their annual young volunteer 
programme in October and November for 14-16 yr olds. The programme is 
split into three sections; poolside helper, timekeeping and safeguarding. The 
first dates are the 9th and 16th October for the poolside helper.

Another great day with the water park and beach. Finishing gala at Dawlish 
with both teams being first and second. Thank you Dawlish swimming club 
for hosting the gala with other visiting teams: Exmouth and Oddicombe. 
Back to the accommodation for an early night rest ready for the theme park 
tomorrow.

After arriving safely in Devon we now completed 3 of our 4 galas. First gala 
came second and third at Tiverton, second gala we came first and third at 
ilfracombe and todays gala at Barnstaple both of our teams came joint first.
All activities seem to be enjoyed by all.
